This cassette is yet another gem from the consistantly superb Cipher Productions in the form of a harsh noise storm, brought to you by Sam McKinaly (The Rita) and Josh Rose. This is my first exposure to this project, but after enjoying various releases from The Rita I (at least half) knew what to expect. BT. HN. takes a different turn from the usual cult harsh noise wall purity of The Rita, and yet the same qualities are still in tow. Limited to 100 copies, Valastro is presented in a square plastic box with six cards with the usual obsessive black and white film actress imagery as well as live photos.
Starting the offensive with a blast of reverbed noise, Valastro delves into plenty of sample usage; crowds of foreigners all trying to talk over each other in a panicked frenzy before the audial assault. Layers of destructive harsh noise frequencies and pummeling low-end rumble make themselves known and heard. The sounds on offer are dynamic and heavy enough to suit any harsh noise obsessive. The reverbed blasts a nice addition to tear apart the walls and build a certain amount of tension. Piercing mic feedback and a quick blast of rough, dirty vocals ensue ciphering their filth through blocks of static. Definitely not a polished noise assault in any means but it holds it's ground well enough.
The other side of the cassette continues the sample usage but this time wielding just rumbling bass as it's weapon, but begins to branch out into crisp and dense noise study. It allows room to breathe and distorted oscillations to disturb it's wake. Being such a basic release in terms of old school power electronic debauchery, there is not an awful lot to comment on here. If you like your power electronics vicious and filthy swamped with the cult HNW phenomina then this is well worth picking up.
