on october 18, 2004, maboroshii productions wrapped shooting on their newest short film, "out of the darkness." shot over eight days entirely in rural pennsylvania it is a decidedly different type of ghost story, something in between john cassavetes 'shadows' and masaki kobayashi's 'kwaidan.'

"out of the darkness" was shot on 35mm b&w film. all of the effects in the film were done using traditional make-up and sfx techniques. there is no cgi in this film.
